Art Cabrera

 

Art Cabrera has co-directed the Miami Hoops Basketball Camp since 2006.  He was the Head Basketball Coach at Barbara Goleman SHS (17 yrs.) where he led the school to its only District Championship in 1999 & was chosen to coach the Dade / Broward All Star Game. Prior to his arrival at Goleman, he worked alongside Frank Martin (Head Coach at South Carolina) & Anthony Grant (NBA Asst. Coach) at Miami Senior HS, winning 5 State Championships under legendary coach Shakey Rodriguez, who is the winningest Coach in the history of FIU.  His Junior Varsity team at Miami High had the most victories in school history going 22-0.  Cabrera has coached the following D-1 Players:  Adrian Martinez (Northeastern), Diondre Larmond (Bethune-Cookman), Doug Edwards (Florida State), Stevie Edwards (U.M.), Allan Edwards (Kentucky), & Cesar Portillo (South Alabama).  A graduate of Biscayne College (now St. Thomas University), he was a 4 yr. letterman under legendary coach Ken Stibler.  The 1982, The Bobcats beat the Houston Cougars which had 2 Hall of Famers on their roster (Clyde Drexler & Hakeem Olajuwon). Currently, Cabrera is in his 30th year serving as a MDCPS Social Studies Teacher & in his 5th year as a Certified FHSAA Basketball Official.
